Stellenbosch Roussanne
ABOUT THE STELLENBOSCH ROUSSANNE
Roussanne is a variety cultivated in the Rhône valley and mostly used in the so-called New World white blends with Marsanne. First taken to Australia by James Busby, who sourced all his material in the Southern Rhône valley in the 1860’s. Clones were imported to SA by Simon Barlow in 2000 and after a quarantine period were planted at Rustenberg.
Rustenberg pioneered the growing and vinification of Roussanne in South Africa by importing and establishing the first plant material in the country, as well as making the first single varietal wine. Our Roussanne is released in its youth but requires a bit of age to fully show its complexity. With a floral alluring nose and textured spicy palate, this wine is a great match with food.
